Mayors from across the United States gathered in Savannah, Georgia, for a forum marking the start of Jewish American Heritage Month and focusing on combating antisemitism. The event, organized by the Combat Antisemitism Movement in partnership with national and local Jewish organizations, aimed to provide municipal leaders with tools and partnerships to better support Jewish communities at a time when antisemitism is described as reaching record levels.

Participants signed a joint pledge committing their cities to elevate and recognize Jewish heritage through local action. Organizers emphasized not only the need for protection against hate, but also the importance of understanding Jewish history, identity, and contributions to American society.

Savannah was chosen as the host city because of its nearly three centuries of Jewish history, including one of the oldest active synagogues in the country. City leaders highlighted the longstanding presence and influence of Jewish residents, while several mayors presented on historic Jewish mayors from their own regions, underscoring the enduring impact of Jewish leadership in communities nationwide.
