WaPo Reporter, Al Jazeera Alumna Notorious for Error-Riddled Anti-Israel Reports Is Laid Off

Louisa Loveluck, a Washington Post reporter and former Al Jazeera correspondent, has left the newspaper after being laid off in February. She announced her departure on the social media platform X, reflecting on her decade at the publication and expressing gratitude for her colleagues.

Loveluck had faced repeated scrutiny over reporting on Israel and Gaza that required editor's notes and corrections. In one instance, she co-authored a report accusing Israel of killing more than 30 people near a United States aid site without clearly attributing the claim to Hamas or sufficiently presenting Israel's response. The newspaper later said the story fell short of its standards of fairness.

Other controversies included a report about a slain Al Jazeera journalist later identified by Israel as a Hamas operative, and a story alleging a policy of separating Palestinian mothers from premature infants that required significant corrections. An editor's note acknowledged errors and a failure to seek comment from Israeli officials.

Loveluck was also criticized internally for remarks she made after her team was named a Pulitzer Prize finalist for coverage of the Israel Hamas war, with some colleagues objecting to her omission of Hamas and Israeli hostages in her comments about suffering in Gaza.
