United States President Donald Trump said he is dissatisfied with Iran's latest proposal to end the war, casting doubt on whether Tehran is capable of reaching a final agreement. Although he acknowledged that Iran wants a deal and has made progress, he questioned whether its leadership can ultimately unite behind a negotiated settlement.
Trump described Iran's leadership as divided into multiple factions, calling it disjointed and internally conflicted. He suggested that while various groups appear interested in striking an agreement, their internal discord may prevent a cohesive decision.
The president said his options are limited to either a significant military escalation or pursuing a diplomatic deal, emphasizing that he would prefer to avoid renewed bombing. He reiterated that Iran must not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon and said negotiations are continuing through telephone discussions rather than in-person meetings, after previously canceling planned travel for talks.
