Thirteen people were killed in Israeli air strikes on southern Lebanon, according to Lebanon's health ministry, as fighting continues despite a declared ceasefire. Hezbollah said it targeted Israeli soldiers and military vehicles in Lebanon, while Israel confirmed one of its soldiers was killed in combat, bringing its troop deaths since early March to 17.
A 10-day pause in hostilities was announced on 16 April following talks in Washington between Israeli and Lebanese officials, the first high-level meeting between the two sides since 1993. President Donald Trump later announced a three-week extension to the ceasefire, saying discussions had gone very well and that the United States would work with Lebanon to help it protect itself from Hezbollah.
Although the truce largely halted strikes on Beirut and its southern suburbs, fighting has continued in southern Lebanon, with ongoing air raids and evacuation orders. Israeli forces re-entered southern Lebanon in early March and remain in parts of the territory, after an escalation that followed attacks involving Iran and retaliatory strikes between Hezbollah and Israel.
