The departure of senior lawmaker Chili Tropper has added to the mounting challenges facing Benny Gantz and his Blue and White party, which has been struggling in public opinion surveys. Gantz, once seen as a strong alternative to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after entering politics in 2019, has seen his public support erode following a series of controversial decisions to join, leave, and later rejoin governments led by Netanyahu.
These moves damaged Gantz’s credibility among parts of the electorate and weakened his standing within the political landscape. Tropper’s exit underscores internal instability at a time when the party is seeking to regain momentum and redefine its path forward.
One possible option for Gantz could be integrating into an existing political faction. He recently met with Naftali Bennett, whose associates have indicated that Gantz might be offered a realistic position if he lacks another viable route. Bennett also publicly signaled openness to Tropper, writing on the social media platform X, 'Dear Chili Tropper, much success. The people of Israel need people like you in the leadership of the country.'
