Residents of Judea and Samaria are voicing criticism over Economy Minister Nir Barkat's flagship initiative known as the 'state basket,' claiming it effectively excludes their region. The program provides 100 products at significantly reduced prices through branches of the Carrefour supermarket chain, which won the government tender.
Under the terms of the tender, Carrefour is required to operate 40 branches nationwide and currently offers the discounted basket in 51 locations. However, the chain does not operate any physical branches in Judea and Samaria, leaving local residents unable to access the discounted products in stores.
Residents argue that the structure of the tender results in discrimination against those living in Judea and Samaria. While Carrefour does provide online delivery services to some areas within the region, critics say this does not fully address the lack of in-store access to the discounted basket.
