United States intelligence assessments indicate that despite recent military strikes on key nuclear facilities, Iran could still build a nuclear weapon within about nine months to a year. The strikes in June targeted enrichment sites at Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan, destroying or severely damaging the facilities that were known to be operating at the time.
According to officials familiar with the assessments, the attacks disrupted Iran's nuclear timeline but did not eliminate its capabilities. A significant concern remains over roughly 440 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent, the location of which has not been verified.
The United Nations nuclear watchdog believes that about half of this material was stored in an underground tunnel complex at the Isfahan Nuclear Research Center. However, inspections have been suspended, preventing confirmation of the material's current status and raising ongoing concerns about Iran's nuclear potential.
