Iran has carried out repeated drone and missile attacks against Kurdish Iranian opposition groups based in the Kurdistan Region, even as regional and international actors express support for a more stable Iraq. With reduced foreign military backing and shifting regional alliances, Kurdish leaders are balancing outreach to Baghdad, coordination with neighboring states, and demands for protection from cross border attacks.

As Iraq forms a new government, the Kurdish leadership is seeking both stability and leverage. Much depends on whether the new prime minister can assert authority, limit external interference, and integrate Kurdish demands into a broader vision for a more unified and secure Iraq.
