Cornell University has released video footage it says clears President Michael Kotlikoff of allegations that he struck two student protesters with his car following a campus debate on the Israeli Palestinian conflict. The incident occurred after Kotlikoff introduced a speaker and was confronted by activists calling for amnesty for students disciplined over anti Israel protests.
According to Kotlikoff, he was followed to his vehicle by students and non students, some of whom had previously been banned from campus. He said the group surrounded his car, blocked its path, and banged on the windows. The released footage shows students standing behind the vehicle as it slowly reversed, with one individual pressed against the car and appearing to be pushed back as it moved.
A student activist group disputed the university’s account, alleging that Kotlikoff hit two students and left the scene. Video shared by the group shows a student pushing against the reversing car and later shouting that his foot had been run over. The activists argue the confrontation reflects broader tensions over disciplinary measures taken against protesters since October 2023, including calls to change oversight of student conduct policies.
