Former prime minister Naftali Bennett has filed a two million shekel defamation lawsuit in the Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court against Environmental Protection Minister Idit Silman, Member of Knesset Ohad Tal, and broadcaster Channel 14. The lawsuit follows public claims that Bennett relied on psychiatric medication to function while serving as prime minister.
According to the filing, Silman alleged at a political conference that Bennett was in a poor mental state and that associates placed pills in boxes for him so he could operate effectively. Channel 14 later aired and amplified the remarks, while Tal repeated the allegations on social media, referring to the pills as psychiatric medications. Bennett denies the claims and calls them blatant lies intended to damage his reputation and electoral prospects.
The lawsuit argues that the statements were fabricated to justify Silman's political defection and to harm Bennett ahead of upcoming elections. Channel 14 responded by defending its reporting and challenging Bennett to address the allegations publicly rather than through legal action.
