Toronto police are investigating a late-night drive-by pellet gun shooting outside a North York synagogue as a suspected hate crime. The incident occurred near Bathurst Street and Highway 401 when an occupant of a passing vehicle fired at three people standing outside the Chasidei Bobov synagogue, injuring one person with minor wounds.
Emergency responders attended the scene, and investigators are canvassing the area for witnesses and video footage. Police emphasized that using any type of firearm, real or replica, to intimidate a community is a criminal act.
Jewish advocacy organizations expressed alarm, noting that this was the second similar ঘটনায় in a week and follows multiple recent shootings targeting synagogues in the Greater Toronto Area. Community leaders warned of a growing pattern of violence and intimidation directed at Jewish institutions.
The attack adds to a series of recent incidents, including shootings at synagogues in March, an attempted forced entry at an Orthodox synagogue in Thornhill, and repeated vandalism of a Judaica shop. Authorities say the investigation remains in its early stages as they work to identify those responsible.
