Two activists from a Gaza-bound flotilla are expected to be released from Israeli custody, according to a non governmental organization. The decision follows a ruling by Judge Tal Lahiani, who found no error in a lower court’s earlier decision to keep them detained.
The two individuals, Abu Keshek, a Palestinian resident of Spain, and Thiago Ávila, a Brazilian citizen, deny the allegations against them. Israeli police suspect them of offenses including membership in what Israel defines as a terrorist organization, assisting the enemy during wartime, and maintaining contact with terrorist elements and a foreign agent.
A police representative said the pair had ties to a group that Israel classifies as a terrorist organization. Despite the court’s ruling upholding their detention, arrangements are now underway for their release, according to the non governmental organization involved.
