Former Brooklyn Assemblyman Dov Hikind delivered a forceful warning about what he described as a dramatic rise in antisemitism in New York City and across the United States. In an interview with The Jewish Voice, he argued that hostility toward Jewish communities has become systemic and that local Jewish leadership has failed to organize an effective and unified response. He said many leaders are afraid to confront Mayor Zohran Mamdani over policies he views as harmful to Jewish residents.

Hikind sharply criticized Mayor Mamdani, particularly the decision to nullify an executive order adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of antisemitism. He contended that such moves embolden extremists and leave Jewish communities vulnerable. He also pointed to political developments beyond New York, including a gubernatorial primary in Ohio in which a controversial candidate received significant support, as evidence that extremist rhetoric is gaining traction.

While expressing frustration with local and state officials, Hikind praised President Donald Trump for federal initiatives aimed at combating antisemitism, including action on college campuses and a national Shabbat declaration tied to the country's 250th anniversary. However, he voiced concern about the administration's handling of Iran, warning that delays in confronting the Iranian nuclear threat could have serious consequences. Overall, Hikind framed the current moment as an existential challenge requiring stronger leadership and coordinated action.
