A Palestinian family in the village of Asasa near Jenin says Jewish settlers attempted to dig up the grave of 80-year-old Hussein Asasa shortly after his burial. His son, Mohammed Asasa, said children alerted the family that settlers were disturbing the grave less than half an hour after the funeral concluded.

Hussein Asasa, a former livestock trader and father of 10, had been laid to rest according to Islamic custom in a small hillside graveyard. Mohammed said he had sought permission from a nearby Israeli military base in advance to prevent any disruption to the funeral.

When the family returned to the cemetery, they found a group of armed settlers digging into the freshly covered grave with heavy tools. Mohammed said they tried to negotiate, but the settlers were close to breaking through the final slab protecting the body, forcing the family to act quickly to prevent further desecration.
