A Torah scroll funded entirely through the recycling of bottles and cans was inaugurated at Kfar HaRoeh Yeshiva after a two-year effort led by students and teacher Rabbi Itay Zore'a. The initiative combined environmental responsibility with the religious commandment of writing a Torah scroll, turning sustainability into a community-wide spiritual project.
Students collected hundreds of thousands of bottles and cans and redeemed them under Israel's deposit refund law, using the proceeds to finance the writing of the scroll. The dedication ceremony was attended by the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Kalman Ber, along with students, alumni and local residents.
Rabbi Ber praised the determination behind the project, saying that the scroll belongs to the entire people of Israel and reflects the participation of a whole community. The celebration included singing and dancing through the streets, followed by a festive meal highlighting the connection between hard work, care for creation and devotion to Torah study.
