Netanyahu reveals he wants American financial support for Israel to 'draw down to zero'

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he wants to gradually reduce American financial assistance to Israel to zero over the next decade. In a television interview, he explained that he has discussed the idea with President Donald Trump and believes it is time for Israel to wean itself off the remaining military support it receives, which totals 3.8 billion dollars annually.

Netanyahu said he hopes to begin the process immediately rather than waiting for future congressional action. He argued that Israel should reset its financial relationship with the United States and move toward greater self reliance in both financial and military matters.

The prime minister also addressed shifting public opinion in the United States, attributing declining support for Israel in part to the rapid growth of social media and alleged manipulation by certain countries. In addition, he discussed ongoing tensions with Iran, saying progress has been made but further action is needed to address nuclear material, enrichment sites, proxy groups, and ballistic missile development.
