Pakistan has come under scrutiny after a report claimed it allowed several Iranian military aircraft to park at its airbases during the recent conflict between Iran and the United States. According to unnamed United States officials, multiple Iranian aircraft, including a reconnaissance plane, were flown to Nur Khan airbase shortly after a ceasefire was announced in early April.
Islamabad has denied that the aircraft were linked to any military contingency plan, stating they arrived during the ceasefire to support diplomatic personnel, security teams, and administrative staff involved in peace talks. However, the acknowledgement that Iranian aircraft remained temporarily in Pakistan has raised questions about the country’s claim of neutrality.
A senior United States senator called for a complete re-evaluation of Pakistan’s role as a mediator if the report proves accurate. The report also alleged that Iran moved some civilian aircraft to Afghanistan for protection, though the Taliban denied that any Iranian planes were present there.
