The European Union Aviation Safety Agency has extended its recommendation for airlines to avoid flying to Israel until May 27, 2026, lengthening the advisory by fifteen days. The move delays the anticipated return of several low-cost and national European carriers, including Lufthansa Group and Wizz Air.
The agency cited ongoing military activity and instability surrounding ceasefire efforts in Israel, Lebanon, and parts of the Gulf region. Although overall risk levels have decreased, officials warned that the situation remains fragile and could escalate quickly.
In its statement, the agency said that while risks have lessened, the sustainability of the ceasefire is uncertain and requires close monitoring. It added that it will continue working with the European Commission and member states to reassess the threat level and determine whether further changes to the advisory are necessary.
