The People's Forum Inc., a pro China nonprofit backed by Shanghai based businessman Neville Roy Singham, purchased a three story building in Manhattan for 5.15 million dollars and is seeking an additional 5 million dollars to renovate it into a permanent headquarters. The group has launched a major fundraising drive, urging supporters to contribute 2 million dollars by December 2026 as part of a broader campaign.
The purchase comes as lawmakers and federal officials investigate what they describe as a foreign aligned influence network tied to Singham. Congressional leaders have raised concerns about possible foreign influence or control, and multiple federal departments are examining financial flows linked to the network, including millions directed to The People's Forum.
Founded in 2017, The People's Forum says it serves as a hub for more than 200 organizations and has helped coordinate protests and political education efforts across the United States. The organization reports it has trained tens of thousands of people and hosted thousands of events, positioning the new building as a central space for organizing and strategy.
Property records show the building requires significant repairs and carries active violations and civil penalties. The group says the structure is in disrepair and will require millions in renovations, describing donor contributions as essential to securing a permanent base for its activism amid growing political scrutiny.
