Israel marked the 59th Jerusalem Day with a large flag march through the Old City and celebrations held across the country. The day commemorates the reunification of Jerusalem following the Six-Day War in 1967 and coincided this year with the anniversary of the Israeli Declaration of Independence on May 14.
Tens of thousands gathered in Jerusalem, with participants carrying Israeli flags through the Old City, including the Muslim Quarter, before concluding at the Western Wall. The annual march drew significant crowds and heightened security throughout the capital.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir visited the Temple Mount ahead of the march, declaring that sovereignty had been restored there. Police later announced the arrest of a suspect who was allegedly planning a terror attack during the celebrations, and clashes were reported between activists from across the political spectrum in the Old City.
