The Eurovision Song Contest grand final is set to take place in Vienna despite significant controversy surrounding Israel's participation. Five countries — Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland and Slovenia — withdrew from the competition in protest over Israel's military offensive in Gaza following the October 7, 2023 attack. Organizers say they aim to preserve the event as a neutral celebration of music, even as global tensions weigh heavily on this year's show.

The withdrawals have reduced the competition to 35 entries, the smallest field in more than two decades, with 25 countries competing in the final. The reduced lineup is expected to lower global viewership for the event, which typically attracts one of the largest television audiences in the world.

Vienna has seen a subdued atmosphere during the lead-up to the final, with small protests and minor disruptions reported during the semi-finals. Police are preparing for further demonstrations near the venue. Meanwhile, Finland and Australia are among the favorites to win the competition.
