The Israel Defense Forces and the Israel Security Agency confirmed the killing of Izz al-Din al-Haddad, head of Hamas' military wing, in a targeted strike near Gaza City. Al-Haddad was described as one of the last remaining senior leaders involved in planning the October 7 massacre and had recently taken over the military wing after the death of Mohammed Sinwar.

According to Israeli officials, al-Haddad played a central role in rebuilding Hamas' military capabilities and planning attacks against Israeli civilians and troops. He was also responsible for managing the captivity of Israeli hostages and reportedly surrounded himself with hostages in an effort to deter assassination attempts.

Military officials called the strike a significant operational achievement and said it was part of a broader campaign targeting senior Hamas commanders. The chief of staff stated that Israel would continue pursuing those responsible for the October 7 attacks and maintain heightened operational readiness in the south.
