'Mahngai man Modi whips out his lash again': Congress takes jibe over fresh CNG price hike in Delhi

The Congress party criticised the Narendra Modi-led government after compressed natural gas prices were raised again in Delhi and the National Capital Region, marking the second increase within two days. The opposition alleged that consumers were being burdened with repeated fuel price hikes immediately after the elections, claiming the government moved swiftly to raise rates once polling concluded.

Compressed natural gas prices in Delhi have risen by a total of three rupees per kilogram over two revisions, taking the rate to 80.09 rupees per kilogram. Prices in Noida and Ghaziabad have also increased. The hikes are expected to raise transportation costs, affecting commuters who rely on compressed natural gas-run autos, taxis and private vehicles.

The increase follows a broader nationwide fuel price revision in which petrol and diesel rates were raised by three rupees per litre. Petrol in Delhi now costs 97.77 rupees per litre, while diesel is priced at 90.67 rupees per litre. The revisions come amid a sharp surge in global crude oil prices linked to tensions involving Iran, Israel and the United States, and disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz.

Industry sources indicated that despite the recent hikes, state-run oil companies continue to incur losses due to elevated global energy prices. Officials said further price revisions cannot be ruled out, depending on government approval and the evolving international situation.
