An Israeli jiu-jitsu fighter earned a bronze medal at a Grand Slam tournament, while Kuwait's Jassim Alhatem took home the gold. The competition was marked by tension following the medal rounds.

According to members of the Israeli delegation, Alhatem refused to shake the Israeli athlete's hand and declined to participate in the traditional winners' photo. They said he told the Israeli competitor, 'You Israelis kill children,' and added that he would not have competed against him had they met in the final.
