Pakistan has quietly deployed a large military force to Saudi Arabia, significantly shifting the strategic balance in the Middle East. The deployment includes 8,000 troops, a squadron of fighter jets, advanced drone units, and sophisticated air defence systems of Chinese origin designed to protect the kingdom from cruise missiles and ballistic threats.
The air defence systems, funded by Saudi Arabia, are now being operated by Pakistani personnel. A previously undisclosed clause in the agreement could expand the deployment to as many as 80,000 troops, dramatically increasing Pakistan’s military footprint in the region.
The move places Islamabad in a delicate position, as it deepens its role as Saudi Arabia’s primary security partner while simultaneously attempting to maintain diplomatic engagement with neighboring Iran. The development signals a high-stakes balancing act with significant implications for regional stability.
