The Israeli government is considering plans to seize dozens of properties owned by Arab residents in the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem's Old City, according to a media report. An inter-ministerial team is expected to examine the potential expropriation of homes and public buildings, many of which have been the subject of legal disputes since the reunification of Jerusalem in 1967.

The properties were reportedly designated for expropriation under a 1943 land ordinance dating back to the British Mandate period, which allows the finance minister to seize land for public purposes. The focus of the review is said to include Chain Gate Street, a central commercial and tourist area near the Temple Mount that contains significant religious and cultural institutions.

Critics argue that the move could alter the character of the Old City and provoke international backlash. A Palestinian Islamist group condemned the reported plan, calling it a dangerous escalation and urging increased resistance and presence in the area.
