Ofer Bronchtein, a longtime peace activist and close confidant of French President Emmanuel Macron, has died at the age of 69. Born in Beersheba to families with roots in Safed and Hebron, he moved to France at age nine and spent his teenage years there before returning to Israel at 17.
After coming back to Israel, Bronchtein lived at Kibbutz Beit Keshet in the Lower Galilee and later settled in Tel Aviv's Hatikva neighborhood. He devoted his life to advancing social justice and promoting peace and reconciliation between Jews and Arabs, as well as Israelis and Palestinians, becoming a prominent voice in efforts to foster dialogue and coexistence.
