African Lion 26, the largest international military exercise on the continent, demonstrated how artificial intelligence is transforming multinational operations. Led by the United States and hosted across Ghana, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia, the exercise brought together more than 5,600 civilian and military participants from over 40 nations. Advanced artificial intelligence systems were embedded directly into live operational environments to enhance coordination and effectiveness.
At the Southern Zone headquarters in Agadir, Morocco, a Combined Joint Task Force used artificial intelligence enhanced platforms to monitor tactical activities in real time. These systems enabled seamless information sharing over an unclassified network, creating a shared operational picture that strengthened cooperation among allied and partner forces.
The exercise also tested autonomous platforms, advanced communications systems and artificial intelligence driven decision support tools in live scenarios. Machine learning applications shortened response times and improved targeting precision, while remote and autonomous systems were evaluated in attack, defense and mission command roles. Organizers said the integration of advanced technologies improved interoperability, readiness and resilience, signaling that artificial intelligence is now central to modern multinational military operations.
