Iran and the United States are reportedly close to reaching a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war, according to regional officials and a diplomat cited by The Associated Press. The draft, prepared by Pakistan, has been submitted to both sides for review, with a final decision expected within 48 hours.
President Donald Trump confirmed that he has read a draft agreement but did not say whether he would accept it, stating that Iran is 'getting a lot closer' to an acceptable deal. He emphasized that he would only approve an agreement that meets all United States demands. Trump is expected to consult with senior advisers and speak with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Turkey, and Pakistan.
According to an Iranian source cited by Al Jazeera, the memorandum includes provisions to end the war, lift the siege, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and withdraw American forces from the war zone. Nuclear issues are excluded from the current draft but could be addressed 30 days after an agreement is reached. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said there has been some progress in the talks and indicated that updates may come soon.
