United States President Donald Trump said that Washington and Tehran have 'largely negotiated' a broader agreement that could reopen the Strait of Hormuz and ease months of military escalation launched under Operation Epic Fury. He indicated that discussions are ongoing and warned that military action remains an option if Iran fails to comply. The proposed framework would gradually reopen the strategic waterway, reduce restrictions on Iranian ports and begin at least 30 days of further negotiations focused on Iran’s nuclear programme and its stockpile of near-weapons-grade uranium.

Iran, however, rejected Trump’s characterization of the talks. State-affiliated media reported that the Strait of Hormuz would remain under Iranian control and denied that any agreement guarantees free passage as it existed before the conflict. Iranian outlets said the proposal is still awaiting final approval from the office of the supreme leader and described claims about reopening the strait as inconsistent with reality.

Regional leaders from Gulf nations, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan and Pakistan expressed support for continued diplomacy during calls with Trump, describing the discussions as constructive. Israel remains cautious, concerned that an interim deal could ease pressure on Tehran without fully resolving concerns about its nuclear activities. While mediators from Qatar and Pakistan have held talks in Tehran, both sides acknowledge that key details remain unresolved and that the outcome is uncertain.
