'Either we sign a deal or hit them harder': Trump says Iran deal has '50/50' chances

United States President Donald Trump said the chances of reaching a deal with Iran were a 'solid 50/50', adding that either Washington would sign a good agreement or escalate military action. He is expected to review Tehran's latest proposal with senior advisers before making a final decision on whether to resume strikes.

The comments come amid intense diplomatic efforts by several Middle Eastern countries to broker a ceasefire after weeks of escalating conflict. Mediators including Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and others have been working to bridge differences, with reports suggesting that a memorandum of understanding to end the war is in its final stages.

The proposed framework reportedly includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz, easing the United States blockade on Iran and releasing frozen Iranian funds, followed by further negotiations on a broader agreement. However, major sticking points remain, particularly over uranium enrichment and Iran's enriched uranium stockpile.

While Trump said an agreement has been largely negotiated and described recent talks with regional leaders and Israel's prime minister as positive, divisions persist among allies. Some leaders are urging stronger military action, while others warn that further escalation could destabilize regional oil infrastructure and global shipping routes.
