The documentary One Eye Open, directed by Tom Giat and produced by Ohad Milstein, has won the 2026 Weil-Bloch Film Award, earning a prize of $50,000. The film will have its world premiere at the Docaviv international documentary festival in Tel Aviv, where it will compete in the main Israeli competition. The festival runs from May 28 to June 6 at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque and other venues across the city.
Giat’s debut film follows his personal experience as a reserve soldier during Operation Swords of Iron, documenting more than 400 days of service and the emotional strain of war. Through an intimate lens, the film captures the inner struggles of reservists who answered the call to serve following the events of October 7, offering a deeply personal perspective on the ongoing conflict.
Established in 2020, the Weil-Bloch Film Award honors Israeli films that address themes such as shared society, immigration, and racism, while demonstrating courage in both subject matter and filmmaking. The prize is awarded annually to projects in advanced stages of completion, supporting works that aim to reach international audiences and encourage social change through cinema.
