Residents of the southern Lebanese border village of Mais al-Jabal say new photographs show widespread destruction of their homes, including properties they recognize as their own. Khalil Hamdan identified the ruins of his house in images showing Israeli armoured vehicles and bulldozers among flattened buildings. He said he had already rebuilt once after earlier fighting, only to lose everything again.
Local officials estimate that as much as 80 percent of the village may now be destroyed, up from roughly half before the latest escalation. Images indicate fresh demolition in central areas that had previously remained standing. Lebanese authorities have not released an updated nationwide assessment of the damage.
The renewed destruction follows months of conflict and a fragile ceasefire period during which rights groups reported extensive damage to civilian property. Israeli officials say they are creating a buffer zone and have stated that displaced Lebanese residents will not return until security is assured for communities in northern Israel. Meanwhile, many displaced villagers say they are exhausted by repeated loss and uncertainty, with reconstruction efforts yet to begin in earnest.
