Israel has asked the United States to limit its diplomatic efforts with Lebanon to a two to three week timeframe, as cross-border attacks by Hezbollah continue to escalate. According to a report by Channel 12, Israeli officials believe the current efforts to secure a diplomatic breakthrough or maintain a fragile semi-ceasefire are unlikely to succeed under present conditions.
Israeli leaders argue that ongoing attacks on soldiers and border communities are undermining deterrence and weakening Israel’s strategic position. They contend that delaying a stronger response only emboldens Hezbollah and reduces the chances of restoring long-term stability.
If no agreement is reached by mid-May, Israel is expected to seek President Donald Trump’s approval for a broader military campaign in Lebanon that has already been prepared, the report said.
