A 45 year old man has appeared before Westminster Magistrates' Court charged with three counts of attempted murder following a series of stabbing incidents in north and south London. Essa Suleiman is accused of attacking two Jewish men, Shloime Rand, 34, and Moshe Shine, 76, in Golders Green earlier this week. He also faces a third attempted murder charge linked to a separate stabbing in Southwark involving a man said to have known him for about 20 years.
Prosecutors said Suleiman is additionally charged with possession of a knife in a public place. He did not enter any pleas during the hearing and confirmed only his identity. The court was told he suffered a medical episode during his arrest and was taken to hospital before being transferred to custody. Reporting restrictions remain in place regarding an address connected to the Southwark incident due to its link with supported mental health accommodation.
Rand has since been discharged from hospital, while Shine also received medical treatment for his injuries. The case has been referred to the Old Bailey, where Suleiman is due to appear on May 15 for a preliminary hearing. He remains in custody as counter terrorism officers continue investigating the full circumstances of the attacks amid heightened national security concerns.
