Iran fired two missiles at a United States Navy vessel after it attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, according to the semiofficial Fars news agency. The report said the vessel was targeted after allegedly ignoring a warning from Iranian naval forces.

Fars, citing local sources, claimed the ship was struck by the missiles and was unable to continue its course, forcing it to retreat from the area. There was no immediate comment from the United States regarding the reported incident.

Earlier, President Donald Trump said the American military would guide trapped ships through the blockaded waterway and respond forcefully to any interference with the operation.
