Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has carried out a partial cabinet reshuffle, replacing several senior officials including his brother, Maher al-Sharaa, who had served as secretary-general for the presidency. Former Homs governor Abdul Rahman Badreddine al-Aama has been appointed to take over the role, according to state media.
The changes also include the replacement of Information Minister Hamza Almustafa and Agriculture Minister Amjad Badr, who were succeeded by Khaled Fawaz Zaarour and Bassel Hafez al-Sweidan. Additional appointments were made at the provincial level, with new governors named for Homs, Quneitra, Latakia, and Deir Ezzor.
The reasons for the reshuffle were not disclosed. The transitional cabinet, formed in March 2025 after the removal of longtime leader Bashar al-Assad in 2024, had been largely composed of figures close to al-Sharaa.
