Israel's military said a 47-year-old sergeant major, Alexander Glovanyov, was killed during combat near the Israel-Lebanon border on Sunday. His death brings the number of Israeli military personnel killed since fighting with Hezbollah began in early March to 18. One Israeli civilian contractor has also been killed.

Clashes have continued in southern Lebanon despite a ceasefire that took effect on April 17 between Israel and Lebanon. The truce was intended to halt hostilities, but both sides have continued to exchange fire along the border.

Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran, entered the conflict on March 2 by launching rockets at Israel following the killing of Iran's supreme leader in strikes carried out by the United States and Israel. Israel responded with airstrikes and a ground invasion, with its forces operating behind a self-declared 'yellow line' approximately 10 kilometers north of Lebanon's border.
