A senior Iranian general has claimed that Hezbollah's sustained resistance forced Israel into a ceasefire with Lebanon, following an announcement of a truce by Donald Trump. Esmaeil Qaani, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force, said the end of the conflict was a key objective for Iranian negotiators.
Israel's military campaign had targeted the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group operating within Lebanon rather than the Lebanese state itself. Hezbollah stated that any ceasefire must apply across all Lebanese territory and must not grant Israeli forces freedom of movement, underscoring its position that the truce should be comprehensive.
