A nationwide siren will sound as the country begins Memorial Day, honoring 25,648 fallen service members since 1860. The central ceremonies include the reading of names at the Hall of Remembrance on Mount Herzl, followed by a two-minute moment of silence and the main state memorial event.
Since last Memorial Day, 147 additional names have been added to the list of the fallen, along with 47 disabled veterans who died and were officially recognized as fallen service members. Among the most recent losses are two soldiers killed in southern Lebanon and two others who died in non-combat circumstances.
