Israel's embassy to the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic has condemned a hotel in the city of Osh after it displayed a sign reading 'Jews and animals are not allowed.' The message appeared in English, Kyrgyz, and Russian and included symbols of a dog and a Star of David crossed out. The embassy described the sign as openly antisemitic and said such discrimination violates principles of respect, equality, and human dignity.
Local media reported that the Villa Hotel, which opened three weeks ago, said the building's owner was responsible for putting up the sign. Hotel management stated they opposed the decision but were unable to prevent it. Following a visit from law enforcement, the sign was removed.
Police in Osh said an investigation is ongoing, with witnesses questioned and expert analyses ordered. Kyrgyzstan, a majority Muslim country with a small Jewish population largely based in the capital, has maintained diplomatic relations with Israel since 1992.
