Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said he expects the United States blockade against Iran could expand globally, calling the effort effective in limiting Tehran's ability to fund terrorism. He said he spoke with President Donald Trump and War Secretary Pete Hegseth and supports the decision to keep the blockade in place.
Graham warned that any country or entity assisting Iran in distributing its oil would do so 'at your own peril,' arguing that the pressure campaign represents the best opportunity since 1979 to change the regime's behavior. He expressed hope that the situation could ultimately be resolved through diplomacy.
The blockade has been in effect for more than a week, with American forces operating across the Middle East and beyond. While Trump recently extended a ceasefire to allow Iranian leaders time to present a unified proposal, he directed the military to maintain the blockade until negotiations are concluded.
