Ukraine has called on Israel to seize a Russian ship that docked at the Port of Haifa, alleging it is carrying grain stolen from Ukrainian territory under Russian occupation. Ukrainian officials say the wheat was taken illegally and transported for profit, and they are urging Israeli authorities not to allow the cargo to be accepted.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine is preparing a sanctions package targeting individuals and entities involved in transporting and profiting from what Kyiv describes as stolen grain. The dispute has escalated diplomatically, with Ukraine summoning Israel's ambassador for a formal protest.
The incident sparked a public exchange between Israel's foreign minister, Gideon Sa'ar, and Ukrainian officials, highlighting tensions between the two countries over the handling of the shipment. Ukraine maintains that allowing the cargo to be unloaded would legitimize what it considers unlawful trade in looted agricultural goods.
