Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed a new outline for the Lag Ba'omer celebration on Mount Meron, under which three bonfire-lighting ceremonies will be held with up to 200 participants at each event. The gatherings will be managed by police in accordance with updated security restrictions.
The revised plan follows a decision by the Home Front Command to limit outdoor gatherings along the Israel-Lebanon border and in the Meron area to 200 people, and indoor gatherings to 600 people. These restrictions significantly scaled back earlier expectations for the holiday.
Earlier in the week, officials had approved a broader plan allowing around 10,000 attendees, divided into groups of 1,500 across different areas of the mountain. However, the Director General of the Ministry of Jerusalem later announced the cancellation of all planned events, citing a disagreement with the Ministry of Transportation over arrangements for travel to the site.
