Israel's security cabinet is set to meet on Sunday to consider the possibility of renewed fighting in Gaza following Hamas's response to an international disarmament proposal. According to the Israeli public broadcaster, officials are seeking clear steps toward Hamas's disarmament and the formation of a new technocratic government in the territory.
Hamas reportedly submitted its reply to the plan presented by international envoy Nickolay Mladenov after previously rejecting it in mid-April. The response included conditions related to its weapons arsenal and demanded that Israel commit to a full ceasefire and a complete military withdrawal from Gaza based on an agreed timetable.
Meanwhile, the Gaza Board of Peace denied reports that its Civil Military Coordination Center in Kiryat Gat would be closed, calling such claims incorrect. The organization said the center continues to facilitate aid delivery and support security efforts, and expressed confidence in progress toward establishing a transitional government in Gaza and deploying an international stabilization force.
