Music festival organisers say they are being forced to adapt as rising costs and industry pressures threaten the future of many events. Increasing fuel prices, driven by ongoing tensions in the Middle East, are adding significant strain as the summer season approaches.
Chris Smith, director of the world music and dance festival, said the industry has undergone a 'massive change', with large multinational companies buying up major parts of the market. This consolidation has made it harder for independent festivals to compete and remain financially viable.
Despite these challenges, some new events are finding success. Summerfest at the Beach in Weston-super-Mare has seen strong ticket sales, suggesting that while the sector faces uncertainty, there is still appetite for live music experiences when organisers adapt effectively.
