Melissa Barrera, a former star of the horror franchise 'Scream,' is criticizing her former co stars for returning to the upcoming seventh installment after she was fired over her social media posts about the Israel Hamas war. In a new interview, Barrera said the actors who came back were 'scabby' and accused the studio of relying on nostalgia to continue the series without her.
Barrera was dismissed in late 2023 following backlash to posts in which she accused Israel of genocide during its military response to the October 7 attacks. The production company said at the time that it has zero tolerance for antisemitism or hate speech. Barrera rejected that characterization, saying she was advocating for human rights and peace.
Her departure was followed by additional changes to the film, including another lead actor choosing not to return and the director stepping away. Barrera said she received some private messages of support but felt that words without action were meaningless as she continues working to rebuild her career.
