Indirect talks between Iran and the United States are ongoing, with Pakistan serving as a mediator, according to Iran's ISNA news agency. The two sides are reportedly exchanging messages and draft texts in an effort to create a formal framework for an agreement. Iranian officials say negotiators are very close to a draft, though no final deal has been reached and key gaps remain.
Among the main sticking points are Iran's uranium enrichment activities and control over the Strait of Hormuz. While progress has reportedly been made in narrowing differences, these issues continue to complicate efforts to finalize an accord.
United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio pointed to positive signs in the negotiations but cautioned against excessive optimism. He emphasized that President Donald Trump prefers a comprehensive diplomatic agreement, while warning that alternative measures remain available if talks fail. Trump echoed confidence that the dispute will end soon and insisted that Iran will not be allowed to retain enriched uranium, underscoring both diplomatic and military leverage.
