Israeli officials have voiced strong opposition to the emerging agreement between Iran and the United States, warning that the framework fails to address critical security concerns beyond Tehran’s nuclear program. According to officials in Jerusalem, even if enriched uranium is removed from Iran, the deal does not confront Iran’s missile development or its network of regional proxy forces.
Israeli leaders are also concerned that the agreement could limit Israel’s operational freedom, particularly in Lebanon and other areas where it acts against Iranian influence. One official said the deal could affect whether and how Israel is able to operate militarily in the region.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a meeting with senior ministers and security officials to assess the situation. Israeli officials believe the American president is determined to secure an agreement, while the ultimate decision may rest with Iran’s supreme leader, who is believed by American officials to have given at least preliminary approval to the deal.
