Hate crime prosecutions in England and Wales are to be fast-tracked following a series of antisemitic attacks, the director of public prosecutions has announced. Stephen Parkinson said stronger action was needed to address daily incidents targeting the Jewish community, including threats and abuse intended to cause fear and distress.
He has instructed prosecutors to bring charges more quickly, stressing that law enforcement must respond robustly during what he described as a period of crisis for the Jewish community. The move follows the stabbing of two Jewish men in Golders Green and several arson attacks in areas with large Jewish populations.
Authorities say the accelerated approach is aimed at clamping down on rising antisemitic incidents and reinforcing protection for affected communities.
